Terms of Service
Last updated: 7 July 2026 · Privacy & Data Security →
1. Who can use SocialMate
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. By signing up you confirm the details you give us (name, email, date of birth) are accurate, and you're responsible for keeping your password safe. One person per account; accounts may not be sold or transferred.
2. Your content & conduct
You own what you post. By posting, you give SocialMate a licence to display and distribute that content inside the service (feeds, groups, stories, the map) so the app can work.
You agree not to post or send content that is illegal, harassing, hateful, sexually exploitative, violent, or misleading; not to impersonate others; and not to spam, scrape, or attempt to break the service. Anonymous features (voice notes, anonymous posts) hide your identity from other users — not from us; we keep the record needed to act on abuse, and misuse of anonymity is a bannable offence.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules, and group admins may moderate their own communities (approving posts, members and announcements).
3. Coins, payments & the marketplace
- Coins are SocialMate's in-app credit: 1 coin = GHS 1. You buy coins via Paystack; new accounts start with 0.
- Marketplace & stakes: purchases move coins from buyer to seller minus a platform fee (currently 5%). All sales are between users; check items before you buy.
- Events & tickets: posting a paid event costs a flat fee (free for Premium). Ticket sales pay the organiser minus a 10% platform commission. Your QR ticket admits one person once; duplicated or resold codes may be refused at the door.
- Cash-outs are manual: you request, we review and pay to your mobile-money/bank details. Coins are deducted when you request and refunded if we decline.
- Premium unlocks paid features (ads with links, targeting, free event posting, higher limits). Fees and perks may change; we'll surface changes in the app.
Except where required by law, coin purchases and platform fees are non-refundable.
4. Location, events & the map
The map and nearby-notifications only work if you share your location. Event organisers are responsible for their events; SocialMate is not the organiser and isn't liable for what happens at an event — buy tickets and attend at your own judgement.
5. Liability & termination
SocialMate is provided "as is" — we work hard to keep it fast and available, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted service and we're not liable for indirect losses (lost profits, lost data caused by circumstances outside our control). You can delete your account anytime from Settings; we may terminate accounts that break these terms. Sections about payments owed, content licences and liability survive termination.
6. Changes & contact
We may update these terms as the product evolves; significant changes will be announced in the app. Continuing to use SocialMate after a change means you accept it.
